Paul McCartney has made a new Beatles song using artificial intelligence (AI) and plans to release it this year. The song is based on an old demo recording of John Lennon’s vocals taken from a cassette recording that was made in Lennon’s New York City living room just before he died. The AI technology used for this project separated and cleaned up the vocals of the various Beatles members from background noise, allowing high-quality reproduction. McCartney expressed some skepticism about AI-generated music that sounds like original John Lennon recordings, but also said it’s exciting because it represents the future.
