Testing of its self-driving truck technology has been initiated by TuSimple in Japan.

TuSimple, a company that focuses on developing self-driving trucks and has subsidiaries in China, Hong Kong, and Japan, announced on Tuesday that it has begun testing its autonomous vehicles on Japan’s Tomei Expressway. The move comes after the company shared plans to divest its China-based business due to regulatory scrutiny in the US, while later backpedaling by planning to continue operations in the region. The Japanese government amended a law in 2022 to permit Level 4 autonomous vehicles to operate on public roads, introducing a lane on certain parts of New Tomei Expressway by 2024 and allowing commercial operation of L4 autonomous trucks in 2026. TuSimple’s regular testing runs on the Tomei Expressway began in January 2023 and mark the company’s entrance into Japan. Self-driving technology represents an attractive solution to the driver shortage issue in Japan’s logistics industry, according to TuSimple’s President and CEO Cheng Lu. Despite TuSimple’s recent layoffs and delisting from Nasdaq, the company aims to pursue additional business partnerships with local companies and develop the necessary technology to meet local customer demand.

PharmStars Announces “Digital Innovations in Therapeutic Delivery: Supply Chain to the Patient Interface” Theme for its Fall 2023 Accelerator

[ad_1]

Boston, MA, June 06, 2023 –(PR.com)– PharmStars, the pharma-focused accelerator for digital health startups, is now accepting applications for its Fall 2023 cohort around the theme “Digital Innovations in Therapeutic Delivery: Supply Chain to the Patient Interface.” Startups with a digital product or prototype in the theme area are invited to apply by July 10, 2023.

The cohort is open to startups with digital health solutions that pharma can use to innovate therapeutic supply chain management, medication delivery, or the patient-drug experience for small molecules, biologics, or advanced therapies.

PharmStars seeks to bridge the “pharma-startup gap” by helping pharmaceutical firms and startups overcome cultural and other barriers to create productive partnerships, leading to greater success and faster adoption of digital solutions that improve patient outcomes. PharmStars’ unique PharmaU program provides education and intensive, personalized mentoring to help startups work more effectively with pharma.

“PharmStars is a fast-track MBA in pharma,” said Spring 2022 accelerator graduate David van Zuydam, CEO of Head Diagnostics (Dublin, Ireland).

PharmStars’ members will have priority access to the startups that complete the accelerator program. The program will culminate with a private Showcase Event in Boston in November 2023, at which each startup will present to and meet one-on-one with PharmStars’ pharma member companies.

“Our members have selected and shaped this cohort’s focus on the opportunity to innovate around the patient-drug interface. They are eager to work with startups with innovation in drug delivery platforms, medication supply chain efficiency and sustainability, and medication management,” said Naomi Fried, PharmStars’ founder and CEO.

The Fall 2023 program will be PharmStars’ fifth cohort. Forty-seven digital health startups have successfully graduated from the program since it launched in June 2021. Startups of all sizes have benefited from the program.

“Despite having collaborated with pharma companies for years, PharmaU was tremendously valuable to dive deep into the science and business of drug development, and has reframed our perspective on where and how we can add value and impact pharma,” explained Zainab Doctor, Vice President of Product at nference (Cambridge, MA) and Fall 2022 graduate.

Fall 2022 cohort graduate Sameer Sontakey, CEO of Biostrap (Los Angeles, CA), said, “Graduating from PharmStars has opened the door for us to so many great opportunities and partnerships, and we’re looking forward to continuing to build upon what we learned during those ten weeks!”

Applications for the Fall 2023 accelerator program and additional details are available now on the PharmStars’ website. PharmStars is also currently accepting a limited number of additional pharma and biotech members for 2023. Membership information can be found here.

Large language models now equipped with private data thanks to LlamaIndex

The article showcases LlamaIndex, an open source project created by former Uber research scientist Jerry Liu to leverage the capabilities of large language models like GPT-3 and GPT-4. Liu discovered limitations around the models’ ability to work with private data, so he launched LlamaIndex to unlock their use cases. As the project gained popularity, Liu joined forces with Simon Suo to turn LlamaIndex into a fully fledged company. Today, LlamaIndex offers a framework that assists developers in leveraging LLMs on top of their personal or organizational data. The framework includes connectors to ingest data sources and data formats, data management and indexing tools, and a data retrieval and query interface that provides context and knowledge-augmented output. LlamaIndex recently received $8.5 million in seed funding, which will be used to build an enterprise solution atop the open source project, set to launch later this year. The solution will include protection-grade data connectors and domain-specific data indexing capabilities. Overall, LlamaIndex aims to be adaptable to evolving technology and remain a useful tool for developers.

Epique Realty Gives Agents Free Billboards

[ad_1]

Austin, TX, September 28, 2022 –(PR.com)– Epique Realty is a modern agent-owned tech startup brokerage already defined by their “insane benefits,” as described on their wildly popular Instagram page (@epiquerealty). With unheard of benefits like Free Professional Listing Photography, Free Yard Signs, Free Leads, and even a Free Car Wash Membership, it’s little surprise to those in the industry that the startup would try and revolutionize Traditional Advertising as well.

“We’re already known as a tech-driven company, but traditional advertising is not dead and still works for many of our agents. We’re always looking for ways to help our agents get ahead in a competitive market,” said Joshua Miller, CEO of Epique Realty.

Digital billboards have exploded in growth over the last 4 years fueled by marketing companies that now allow instant access to signage uploads. It only takes users minutes to upload a simple graphic and see their sign showing in their location of choice.

“We have set it up so that billboards are a part of our onboarding process. Once an agent onboards with our company, they’ll have their billboard up within 24 hours of joining,” added Miller. This is in stark contrast to the approach taken by many other Brokerages. Only a few Real Estate brokerages have any billboards at all, and even then, most are branding boards promoting the company, not the agent. Individual agents have long been expected to buy their own marketing ads, whether traditional or online.

“The fact that we as a small brokerage can do this, along with our other offerings, means that other large brokerages can afford to do it as well, but just aren’t. Agents have been overlooked by their brokers who treat them like ATMs and that’s just not our approach. We’re an agent-owned company and because of that, our commitment is first and foremost to our agents and investing in their business,” said Miller.

There are currently digital billboards for Epique in the Dallas, Ft. Worth area, Arlington, Greater Houston, The Woodlands & Conroe, Austin, and the San Antonio Metroplex, with many more to come. “We hope to have billboards for our agents all over the state,” said Janice Delcid, Chief Operating Officer of Epique Realty, adding that, “It’s exciting to see them and to see agents take pictures with their boards and share them on social media.”

Epique Realty is a Texas-Based Real Estate Brokerage based in Austin, Texas.

Byju’s sues to contest $1.2B loan acceleration and seeks to disqualify Redwood for ‘predatory’ tactics.

The Indian edtech giant, Byju’s, has taken legal action against Redwood, alleging that the loan company has used predatory tactics to gain control over a significant portfolio of $1.2 billion term loan B. Byju’s has filed a complaint in the New York Supreme Court in response to lenders unlawfully accelerating the term of the loans due to “certain alleged non-monetary and technical defaults.” In retaliation, lenders have seized control of Byju’s Alpha and appointed its management, leading the startup to issue a notice requesting Redwood’s disqualification. Byju’s claims it will not make any payments to term loan B lenders until the dispute is resolved and warns that Redwood could lose critical rights under the TLB.

First victims come forward as Microsoft identifies Clop ransomware gang responsible for MOVEit mass-hacks.

A group of hackers that has targeted the Clop ransomware gang has been linked to a new wave of mass-hacks affecting numerous organizations, including the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), British Airways, and the Nova Scotia government. These cyberattacks target MOVEit Transfer, a commonly used file transfer tool, and allow unauthorized access to affected servers. Progress Software, the developer of MOVEit, has already released some patches. One of MOVEit’s corporate customers, Zellis, a payroll provider, confirmed that its system was compromised, and one of its customers, British Airways, reported that the breach included the payroll data of all its UK-based employees whose personal information has been compromised. The security researchers have attributed these cyberattacks to a group they track as “Lace Tempest,” who have used similar vulnerabilities in the past to steal data and extort victims.

Elon Visits China, Lucid Offers $3 Billion in Stock Sale, and Fiat Introduces Adorable Mini EV

Correction: In a previous headline, it was mistakenly reported that Rivian was selling stock for $3 billion. It is actually Lucid Motors that is planning to raise $3 billion through stock sales. We apologize for the error. Welcome to The Station, your one-stop-shop for all things transportation. I’m Rebecca Bellan, and I’ll be your guide this week as we navigate the latest news in the industry. This week’s biggest story is Elon Musk’s visit to China, which could potentially strengthen Tesla’s relationship with the world’s largest auto market. This is Musk’s first visit since the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s not surprising given how important China is to Tesla’s global sales. In Q1, China accounted for more than half of Tesla’s deliveries. Even though Twitter is banned in China, Musk has managed to gain a large following on Weibo, where he shares his admiration for China and his plans to expand his business there. We’ll be keeping you updated on the latest news from Musk’s visit. In other news, Lucid Group plans to raise $3 billion through a stock offering, the majority of which will come from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). PIF already owns over 60% of the company and has agreed to purchase 265.7 million shares in a private placement for around $1.8 billion. The remaining $1.2 billion will be raised through a public offering. Shares dropped 9% after the announcement due to concerns about Lucid’s increasing losses and dwindling available capital.

NACCE Announces 2022 Winners of Lifetime Achievement Award

[ad_1]

Boston, MA, October 02, 2022 –(PR.com)– The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), the nation’s leading organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship through community colleges, has chosen the Fish Family Foundation and the Herb and Maxine Jacobs Foundation to receive NACCE’s 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognizes both foundations’ entrepreneurial mindset and commitment to equity, demonstrated through their respective roles in the expansion of the “Learn & Earn” program (L&E) at Bunker Hill Community College(BHCC) in Boston, MA.

The award was announced today during NACCE’s annual conference in Boston, where NACCE celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. NACCE was founded on the campus of Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, MA in 2002.

About Learn & Earn
BHCC’s Learn and Earn Program promotes equity in the types of internships offered to students, how they are recruited and placed, and which students can participate. In 2017, the Fish Family Foundation approached BHCC to consider expanding the L&E program to non-profits. The program had been successful but was limited in terms of student participation and corporate involvement. The foundation funded a pilot with a commitment to further fund the program based on the results, including sustainable funding from other philanthropic sources.

The Herb and Maxine Jacobs Foundation expressed interest in funding a program that would lead community college graduates to meaningful jobs and careers. Together, these two funders enabled BHCC to establish a program that increases opportunities for all students. With funding secured, the L&E staff expanded and refined its recruitment efforts, changing the model to be more proactive and including personal email outreach to students who took courses with skills aligned to specific jobs. In addition to promoting equity in the types of internships offered and how students are recruited, the program exposes BHCC students to a broad segment of businesses, especially those that could not otherwise afford to pay intern salaries.

“Together, these two funders enabled BHCC to expand opportunities to all students,” said Rebecca Corbin, Ed.D., president and CEO of NACCE. “The inclusion of students and access to education and entrepreneurial pursuits are part of NACCE’s founding principles, and we wholeheartedly embrace and acknowledge the diligence and generosity of both of these prestigious foundations.”

Fish Family Foundation Director of Strategic Initiatives Jennie Segel represented the foundation at the award ceremony.

“The Fish Family Foundation has long been a supporter of the incredible work at Bunker Hill Community College,” said Segel. “We focus our philanthropy on providing opportunities for underserved populations, especially immigrants, who are often left out of the networks and job opportunities of their peers. This program strengthens the sector by introducing enthusiastic students to the critical work done by non-profit organizations. We were lucky to have a partnership with BHCC president Pam Eddinger and others at the college who listened to our ideas and found ways to turn them into meaningful programs.”

Accepting the award on behalf of the Herb and Maxine Jacobs Foundation, was Austin Gilliland, dean of BHCC’s Division of Professional Studies.

“The Jacobs Foundation believes that vigorous innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit are key elements in strategies to help historically marginalized community college students succeed in 21st century careers,” said Jill Jacobs, a trustee of the Jacobs Foundation. “Paid internship programs such as Learn & Earn provide irreplaceable learning experiences as well as mentoring and networking for students embarking on their new careers. We are honored to be chosen for this award, but truthfully, we believe the credit should go to President Eddinger and her excellent team who make these programs such a success.”

“On behalf of Bunker Hill Community College, I want to congratulate the Herb and Maxine Jacobs Foundation and the Fish Family Foundation on this well-deserved recognition. We are honored to partner with both foundations to bring high-quality, equitable, and living-wage earning internships to community college students,” said Pam Eddinger, Ph.D. “These foundations recognize that the chance to learn and earn provides a critical boost to our students and employers seeking skilled, motivated, and educated workers.”

“NACCE’s Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes inventive leadership and dedication to local communities and is presented to individuals and organizations that have played a pivotal role in the community through their support of civic and philanthropic activities,” said Corbin. “This year’s selection of these two foundations is based on the many contributions they have made to students and the local communities served by the college.”

Influencer Commerce Company Nillio Partners with Coresight Research and Leading Industry Partners for Its Third Annual 10.10 Shopping Festival

[ad_1]

Hollywood, FL, October 03, 2022 –(PR.com)– Social commerce platform Nillio is pleased to announce its partnership with leading retail research company Coresight Research to power its third annual 10.10 shopping.

10.10 is an annual, purpose-driven livestream shopping festival that connects consumers with brands and retailers to jump-start the holiday shopping season with special deals and exclusive offerings, while giving back to charity. The festival this year builds on the success of the 2021 10.10 festival that featured more than 30 retailers and more than 10 charities.

According to Coresight Research’s 2022 US social commerce survey, 65% of US consumers use social media as part of the shopping process, and 60% of those use social media to research and discover products in the clothing, footwear and accessories category—the highest among all categories.

Nillio is breaking new ground in social commerce with the first platform that empowers influencers to sell a curation of products directly to their followers in a multi-brand social store. By working with Nillio, brands and retailers align interests with influencers, empowering them to create social stores and generate high commissions from selling branded products.

Deborah Weinswig, CEO and Founder of Coresight Research, said, “As brands and retailers face an inflationary environment following the pandemic, they are reinventing their business to stimulate demand and drive conversion. Shopping festivals provide great deals and special offers to consumers to help them cope with inflation and prepare for the holiday season. And cost-effective marketing methods such as livestream shopping and social commerce are ideal channels for brands and retailers to not only drive revenue, but also create deeper connections with their consumers, enhance brand and product education, reduce return rates and increase customer satisfaction during an uncertain economic environment.”

Nillio Founder Gil Elias added, “We are excited to partner with Coresight and industry-leading platforms and retailers to showcase the power of the influencer economy. We are confident that our platform will help influencers and retailers alike to drive revenue, enhance consumer engagement and build brand awareness.”

About Nillio
Nillio is a social commerce platform where influencers earn commissions by promoting and selling a curated selection of their favorite brands on their own social store. Nillio enables brands to engage seamlessly with passionate influencers, aligning interests in a strategic win-win. By empowering influencers to create storefronts, brands win love and respect, without the time-consuming (and costly!) hassles from upfront influencer negotiation, relationship problems or returned purchases. By creating their own Nillio storefronts, influencers generate commissions from selling the brands they are most passionate about, and can represent products as a part of their life and personal brand. YouTube reverses its policy on electoral disinformation

YouTube has reversed its rules on election denialism, which now allows for previously prohibited false claims. This decision comes almost three years after the company was the slowest major platform to disallow misinformation during the 2020 US election. The move to change its policies was announced in a blog post on Friday. The post stated that removing this content could curtail free speech without meaningfully reducing the risk of violence or harm. However, YouTube will still prohibit lying about the location of polling places, as well as other efforts to dissuade people from voting. While some argue that denying valid election results ultimately discourages voting, the company doesn’t consider sowing mistrust in the democratic process as “real-world harm.” The company plans to announce more updates around its 2024 election strategy in the coming months.

Gary Vaynerchuk Predicts NFTs Will Have More Utility Than Mere Collectibles.

The podcast called “Chain Reaction” explores the latest trends, news, and drama in the world of crypto. The host, Jacquelyn, recently interviewed Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of VaynerMedia, VeeFriends NFT collection, and chairman of VaynerX for the latest episode. Originally, Vaynerchuk wanted to create a line of desktop toys, but COVID-19 happened and the NFT boom began. Vaynerchuk merged his plan with NFTs to create a positive virtual platform with real-life utility.

Vaynerchuk doesn’t think that expanding intellectual property beyond the digital world through toys and apparel is the right move for every NFT project. However, he thinks ticketing, contracts, and title insurance will be the route forward for NFT growth. In 20 years, people will see NFTs more broadly rather than only as collectibles.

Apart from talking about NFTs, Vaynerchuk’s prior achievements were also discussed, such as founding VaynerMedia and his investments in Twitter, Venmo, and Facebook. The podcast releases every other Thursday and is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other platforms.

Full $7,500 tax credit now available for all new Model 3s, announces Tesla

The Tesla website has been updated to reflect that all new Model 3 vehicles will now qualify for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit. This tax credit was introduced by Congress in August 2022 as part of the Inflation Reduction Act to reduce US reliance on China for batteries. The credit is split into two parts, with 50% of the value of battery components needing to be produced or assembled in North America to qualify for half, or $3,750, of the credit. The other half requires 40% of the value of critical materials to be sourced from the US or a free trade agreement country. The Treasury Dept. began enforcing the critical material sourcing requirement on April 18, leading to many vehicle models, including the Model 3, losing the full tax credits they were previously eligible for. However, Tesla’s Model 3 long-range all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive will now qualify for the full tax credit, and the Model 3 rear-wheel drive will start at $32,740 with the credit. Although Tesla has not indicated why the eligibility for tax credits has changed, CEO Elon Musk has retweeted a screenshot of the website that displays the tax credits available for each vehicle. However, the Treasury Dept.’s website has not yet been updated to reflect Tesla’s increased eligibility for tax credits.

Divebell Partners with PrivacyCheq to Create Active Data Consent — the Holy Grail of Data Privacy

[ad_1]

San Francisco, CA, October 06, 2022 –(PR.com)– Divebell announced today that it has entered into a development partnership with PrivacyCheq, a leading enterprise consent management platform, to solve one of the most vexing day-to-day operational problems for data-driven enterprises today — ensuring that the data they have gathered from users is always processed in accordance with the consent given by the data owners.

Divebell’s customers use its powerful data discovery and monitoring capabilities to ensure that personal data is stored in the right places and is being used for the right purpose by the right users. However, what was missing was the ability to track their consent to use their data for a specific purpose.

Until now.

Divebell’s co-founder and CEO Vikram Shrowty said, “As private data regulatory enforcement has hit its stride in the past year, we realized that while maintaining an accurate data inventory is essential for compliance, helping our customers know which data items should and should not be processed based on changing user consent and opt-in is a huge value add. After all, another pillar that differentiates Divebell is proactive alerting that enables our customers to operationally implement the right controls for personal data.”

Vikram continued, “PrivacyCheq’s platform dovetails perfectly with Divebell because their ConsentCheq service manages the user experience of transparency and operational consent. This capability, combined with Divebell’s proprietary subject tracing technology that lets customers track specific user data across the enterprise data sources, will be a powerful combination that will allow Divebell to flag any user data that may not have the appropriate opt-in or consent. We call this new capability ‘Active Data Consent’ or ADC. With ADC, our customers will be able to process user data on a granular basis in full compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and numerous other new regulations that give users control over the use of their private data after it has been collected.”

PrivacyCheq CEO Roy Smith said, “To explain this in simple terms, Divebell is a leader in finding, inventorying, and continuous monitoring of private user data, but their platform doesn’t know the provenance of the data or what each user’s preferences are at any given moment. ConsentCheq handles all user consent preferences minute-by-minute, but is not aware of the private data itself or its location. We just inform the enterprise about user choices. By marrying these two functions we’ve created “Active Data Consent,” a new type of operational enterprise privacy compliance solution.”

Smith continued, “On any given day, a company’s internal processes might make use of a customer’s email address, their zip code, or a list of recently purchased items. The company typically shares some of the data with third parties for email marketing or cross-marketing. One day, the customer makes a purchase at a company website and clicks on ‘Do Not Sell My Data’ or uses a browser that sends the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. From that moment on, all the data tied to that user is flagged as ‘Internal use only’ and Divebell monitoring ensures that the data is not processed or shared until the user changes their preference.”

Active Data Consent is the first technology that gives users complete control over the use and sharing of their private data, as required by privacy regulations all over the globe. Enterprises that manage their data usage under ADC will enjoy freedom from the fear of regulatory enforcement fines because of their efficient and accurate compliance with user expressed consent or opt-out.

Divebell and PrivacyCheq plan to demonstrate ADC to key customers in Q4 2022, with general availability in Q2 2023. For sales inquiries or any other questions, please contact Divebell at info@divebell.com.

SigmaOS Introduces a Browser-Based Contextual AI Assistant

The startup SigmaOS has launched its own AI assistant called Airis, which is a feature that is integrated into the company’s web browser. Airis is designed to understand the context of pages and provide answers based on that, so users can ask questions about a particular topic without having to clarify what they are asking about. Airis can also rewrite or reword sentences and paragraphs with options like “Make it simpler” or “Write it like a cat.” It can also effectively translate articles and webpages in multiple languages using the GPT-3.5-Turbo model. SigmaOS intends to train Airis to understand whole websites in the future. Airis is currently based on OpenAI technology, but the team is open to integrating other models as well. Other companies, such as Microsoft, Opera, and Mozilla, are also experimenting with integrating chatbots into their web browsers. Currently, interested users can sign up for a waitlist to gain access to Airis.

Filming Has Wrapped for Philly-Based Indie TV Pilot “The Kingfish”

Philadelphia, PA, October 08, 2022 –(PR.com)– The show focuses on the adventures, sticky situations, and cunning of three bright Philadelphia high-school friends, Bobby, Flip, and X. The show (and the pilot episode titled “Misdirected”) is described as a “red herring” because it plays on viewers’ inherent prejudices and stereotypes to create distractions that lead to surprising twists and unexpected outcomes.

The show’s producer wants the opening credits/intro to be artistic, stylish, attention-getting, and simply “dope.” To achieve the desired look, he enlisted the services of the incredibly creative and skilled graphic artists Joshua Black.

The soundtrack and music score are also in development. The soundtrack will feature an instrumental song titled “The Run 4 Cupcake,” which was the score for an episode of the MTV series “Made.” A teaser is available on the YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAdJPwY-mpc2-PxYyR4jbNw.

The cast consists mainly of actors from the Philadelphia area. They include XavierX (“X”), Taylor Myrick (“Bobby”), Britt Starghill (“Flip”), Omar Long (“Big Homie”), Jordan Webber (“Cupcake”), Ariel Sole (“Penny”), Mckayla Mckelvie (“Lucy”), rapper Ital Tha Ruffian (“The Mean Man”), Ron Shaer (“Kingpin”), Kavon Kellam (“Smart Homie”), Keron Morton (“The Big Man”), Jormal Edwards (“Bodyguard), and Justin Vassor.

You can stay updated on the progress and be notified of updates by following “The Kingfish” on social media: Instagram @kingfishphilly, the website www.kingfishshow.com, and the YouTube channel above.
